Hello. My name is a concerned wizard, and I have been stuck in Hogwarts Legacy since launch. It is 2026. I have a job, probably. I have responsibilities, allegedly. And yet I am still here, staring at a guide that lists 43 main story quests like it is a grocery list written by a ghost with too much free time.

The main questline is long. Like, 'I thought I was almost done and then a new map chamber appeared' long. There are 43 main quests in total, and they take you from being a confused new student to a fully licensed curse-flinger who also somehow has time to rescue every magical beast in the Highlands. The quests unlock spells, flying, ground mounts, and the ability to look absolutely fabulous while committing minor property damage.
Here is the full list, with my unprofessional commentary. Buckle up. Or use Floo Flame. Whatever.
| # | Main Quest | My Very Serious Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | The Path To Hogwarts | Baby's first portkey. I cried. The hat did not. |
| 2 | Welcome To Hogwarts | So many stairs. My character's calves are canonically enormous. |
| 3 | Defence Against the Dark Arts Class | Professor Hecat teaches me to duel. I immediately use this knowledge to bully poachers. |
| 4 | In The Shadow Of The Undercroft | Sebastian says 'undercroft' and I say 'yes.' Bad decisions begin here. |
| 5 | Charms Class | Accio, my beloved. Also, Ronen is a sweetheart. |
| 6 | Weasley After Class | Weasley sends me on errands. I am basically a very magical delivery owl. |
| 7 | Welcome To Hogsmeade | Hogsmeade! I spend money I do not have on hats I do not need. |
| 8 | The Locket's Secret | A locket, a mystery, and me pretending I know what I am doing. |
| 9 | Secrets Of The Restricted Section | Sneaking into the restricted section. I am expelled in my heart. |
| 10 | Tomes & Tribulations | Tomes and tribulations. Mostly tribulations. And a lot of dodging. |
| 11 | Flying Class | Flying class. I fall. Repeatedly. The broom and I have a complicated relationship. |
| 12 | Potions Class | Potions class. I brew something that should probably be illegal. |
| 13 | The Girl from Uagadou | Natsai Onai enters. I instantly want to be her friend and/or sidekick. |
| 14 | House-Specific Mission | House-specific mission. Slytherin gets a cool dungeon. Gryffindor gets... character. |
| 15 | Trials of Merlin | Merlin Trials. I set up pillars and question my life choices. |
| 16 | Jackdaw's Rest | Jackdaw's Rest. Ghosts, pages, and my first real 'oh no' moment. |
| 17 | The Map Chamber | The Map Chamber. Portraits judge me. I deserve it. |
| 18 | Percival Rackham's Trial | Percival Rackham's Trial. Pensieve Guardian says hello. I say dodge. |
| 19 | Herbology | Herbology. Mandrakes scream. I scream back. We bond. |
| 20 | The Helm of Urtkot | The Helm of Urtkot. Goblins, mines, and my terrible sense of direction. |
| 21 | Beasts Class | Beasts Class. I catch a Puffskein and immediately name it after my dinner. |
| 22 | Room of Requirement | Room of Requirement. I build a zoo. It is perfect. I never leave. |
| 23 | The Caretaker's Lunar Lament | The Caretaker's Lunar Lament. Moonstone, Demiguise, and sneaking around at night like a weirdo. |
| 24 | Lodgok's Loyalty | Lodgok's Loyalty. A goblin with a heart. I have feelings. Gross. |
| 25 | In The Shadow Of The Estate | In The Shadow Of The Estate. Sebastian's family drama. I bring popcorn. |
| 26 | Astronomy | Astronomy. I look at stars. They do not care about my problems. |
| 27 | It's All Gobbledegook | It's All Gobbledegook. More goblin politics. I nod and cast Confringo. |
| 28 | Back On The Path | Back On The Path. The plot remembers I exist. Rude. |
| 29 | Charles Rookwood's Trial | Charles Rookwood's Trial. More pensieve nonsense. I am basically a magical janitor. |
| 30 | Fire & Vice | Fire & Vice. Fire. Vice. My two favorite things. |
| 31 | The Elf, the Nab-Sack, and The Loom | The Elf, the Nab-Sack, and The Loom. I become a beastnapper with a conscience. |
| 32 | In the Shadow of the Mountain | In the Shadow of the Mountain. More Sebastian. More bad choices. More 'I can fix him.' |
| 33 | The Headmistress Speaks | The Headmistress Speaks. Professor Weasley gives me a look. I deserve the look. |
| 34 | The Polyjuice Plot | The Polyjuice Plot. I drink a potion and become someone else. Finally, a break from myself. |
| 35 | Niamh Fitzgerald's Trial | Niamh Fitzgerald's Trial. A book. A trial. A headache. Beautiful. |
| 36 | Wand Mastery | Wand Mastery. I wave a stick and become unstoppable. Or at least slightly more stopabble. |
| 37 | In The Shadow Of The Mine | In The Shadow Of The Mine. Sebastian, no. Sebastian, yes. Sebastian, why. |
| 38 | The High Keep | The High Keep. Flying, fighting, and my broom finally cooperating. |
| 39 | San Bakar's Trial | San Bakar's Trial. Another trial. At this point, I am a professional trial-goer. |
| 40 | The Final Repository | The Final Repository. Big choices. Big feelings. Big spells. |
| 41 | In The Shadow of Revelation | In The Shadow of Revelation. Everything comes together. I gasp. My cat looks concerned. |
| 42 | Weasley's Watchful Eye | Weasley's Watchful Eye. One last chore before the finale. Classic. |
| 43 | The House Cup | The House Cup. I win. I am the best. I also have not slept in 72 hours. |
Phew. That is 43 quests, and that is not even counting side quests, Merlin Trials, Demiguise statues, or the 17 hours I spent decorating the Room of Requirement with a single rug.

My 2026 Tips For Not Losing Your Mind
-
Do main quests until you unlock flying. Then ignore main quests for 20 hours.
-
Unlock all spells early. Especially Confringo, because fire solves most problems.
-
Do not skip The Room of Requirement. It is a zoo, a potion factory, and a therapy room.
-
Sebastian's questline is optional but emotionally mandatory.
-
If you see a Merlin Trial, do it. Or do not. I am not your mom.
-
Save before major trials. The Pensieve Guardian does not accept apologies.
At the end of the day, Hogwarts Legacy's main questline is a marathon, not a sprint. It has 43 steps, and each one makes you a little more powerful, a little more tired, and a little more likely to yell 'I already have that spell!' at your screen. In 2026, with sequel rumors swirling, it is still a magical mess worth playing. So grab your wand, ignore your real-life responsibilities, and remember: the House Cup is not going to win itself. Unless you use Avada Kedavra on the competition. Which you should not. Probably.
